Web solutions - connectivity simplified

We can provide services for both home users and business users. The prices for all services except broadband are the same. For broadband service, we provide a choice between home access and business acccess.

Email only accounts

This is ideal if you have a domain name that does not yet have a web site ready. For example, you may wish to register your family name as a domain name but simply use it for email. Or use your company name without creating a web site. This gives you a distinctive email address. You can then use the account simply for email, with webmail and full SMTP access. The domain name will need to be registered separately (see the next section). We will do this for you.

Simple email Unlimited email
5 email addresses Unlimited email addresses
100MB Data Transfer (Per Month) 1250MB Data Transfer (Per Month)
£15 per year £50 per year

Each account comes with Forwarding Addresses, Auto Responders, Multi Recipient Addresses and Authenticated SMTP

Domain names

We can register domain names for you and advise on the best use of domain names. We will set up your domain name to forward to a web site, or forward to an email address. We will register the domain name for you and will look after it for you. All domain names are registered in your name for both the registration and administrator aspects. This means you have full rights over the domain and are entitled to move it with ease. A large number of ISPs don't follow this practice and can make it very difficult for you to leave them. Should you ever wish to move your domain away from our control at any point we do not impose any restrictions or additional hidden charges.

The cost of domain name registration varies according to the extension (for example, .com). All of our registrations are for a minimum of 2 years; we can offer longer registration periods if you need. Consider one of the new .EU domain extensions (for example, xorsoftware.eu). We can provide other extensions and more are being generated all the time, so contact us if you want pricing.

The Home 8000 service says 'upto' because ADSL Max works differently to our other fixed speed ADSL products. It's aim is to ensure your connection always receives the highest possible upload and download speeds at a given time. ADSLMax is very dependent on a variety of factors, including the length of the telephone line, the quality of the line and factors at the BT exchange.

Summary

For your presence on the Internet, there are four things you need to consider and we can provide them all :

Domain name - the bit after the www (eg xorsoftware.co.uk). It's the address for your web site or for your email address. We think it should be distinctive and interesting. If you're starting a new company, for instance, we reckon you should think about the domain name when you plan the company name. The problem is now that most of the names have been allocated. That's why you see the likes of ltd.uk and the new .eu domains - it's to extend the possible range of domain names.

We can help you on choosing a domain name. The first step is for you to realise the importance of getting a good name.

Web site - a number of pages, from one to many, to display your company, your products, your portfolio, your home, your family -whatever you want it to be. We've found it remarkably effective to have a single page web site. Enough to say plenty about you but distilled down to the pure essence. Most companies will have a web site with a number of pages, to provide what is effectively a brochure. The beauty of the web is that people can view your brochure from anywhere in the world, at any time and it doesn't involve you at all. But that is also the downside - you don't know that they've visited and you don't know why they haven't taken it any further.

Email - if you have a web site, then you get email as part of the web site. If you wish, however, you can take out just email, without having to have a web site. We think it is so much better to have your email address as contact@wotton-plumbing.co.uk (an invented address) than something like wotton-plumbing@btconnect.com. It just looks that bit more professional. And it means that it doesn't matter where you buy your web connection from - if you choose to change it, you don't have to reprint your business cards. Your domain name is independent of the person providing your broadband connection.

Connection - most people now should be able to get broadband, mostly through their BT phone line or through their cable. In the UK, we are slowly moving toward 8 Mb broadband called ADSL Max- we now offer this, and we also offer 3 standard speeds. Which one you choose depends on how good your connection is. This is tested by BT when you place your order.
